About Matt

Matt Valentine-Chase is a qualified therapist. He is also an empath and natural healer from birth. This means that he can tune into you very quickly. This can feel like an important moment in your life – when you know that another human being ‘gets you’.

Matt has over eighteen years of experience as a therapist and twenty-five years professional experience as a healer and energy worker. Although trained in healing and therapy, many of his skills are innate.

He has worked for traditional providers (see below) of therapy and support services, as well as providing energy work and workshops (including providing REIKI attunements) for healing venues.

He has worked for: NHS drug services, third sector drug and alcohol services, social inclusion charities including sex worker inclusion and advocacy, young person’s organisations, Primary Care Trusts and social care organisations. Matt has previously worked as a counselling co-ordinator for both NHS and voluntary organisations and has experience of crisis intervention and management.

In addition to therapy, Matt has extensive experience in general nursing, elder care, end of life care, social care and mental health care services.

Matt’s qualifications include:

  • Diploma in Counselling (University of Manchester)
  • Certificate in Counselling (University of Manchester)
  • Practitioner Certificate in Time Line Therapy®
  • Diploma in Health and Community Care
  • Certificate in Health and Community Care
  • Preliminary Certificate in Social Care (CCETSW)
  • Certificate in Substance Misuse Awareness Studies
  • Master/Teacher in USUI System of Natural Healing

Related qualifications or formal training in:

  • Buddhist Meditation Practices
  • Holistic Therapies
  • Energy Clearing
  • Taoist Meditation Practices

Matt currently works in mental health services and as such has up to date training recognised by Local Authorities.

    These include:

  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults (including Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 and the Care Act 2014)
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Equality and Inclusion (including the Equality Act 2010)
  • Mental Capacity
  • Autism Awareness.

The above additional training helps to inform Matt's practice as a therapist. It also assists in his knowledge of signposting (referring clients to other practitioners/agencies) where required. Matt also has an enhanced disclosure clear DBS certificate.

Matt believes that appropriate self-disclosure is important in forming a trusting and effective working relationship. He has lived experience of mental health challenges and dark night of the soul. He experienced this as a 'breakdown' which many sensitive and spiritual people refer to as 'breakthrough'. This is a dismantling of the ego and whilst painful and confusing at the time, is a quantum leap in our development. He was also a carer from a very young age, with personal experience of caring for a disabled parent, alcoholism in the family and long periods of living in poverty, as a child and adult. Matt passionately feels that his own experiences enhance his therapeutic skills and natural ability to empathise with his clients.

Although Matt works with a diverse range of issues and people, he has specialisms in the following areas: sex and sexuality, stress and anxiety, addictions, spiritual questioning or crises, mood disorders, meditation and relaxation training, feelings of isolation, confidence building, lgbtqai+ issues, loss and bereavement, mortality and fear of death, transforming negative emotions and more.

What really stands out with Matt's work - is his difference. Many clients just don't resonate with the traditional therapist/therapy approach. Matt has formidable training but works very differently from traditional therapists. His humour, insight, courage to challenge and deep sense of compassion will, he hopes, enable you to feel like someone truly cares.

    Open Ended Therapy

Transformation can be swift for clients who resonate with this way of working. This means that it is highly unlikely you will need weekly sessions. One session, when combined with energy work, mindfulness and therapy, can bring you back to centre very quickly. However, if you do prefer a slower process, this is okay too! Most clients choose fortnightly or monthly sessions. Regardless of what you choose, Matt does not 'close off' sessions and unless you purchase a 6 session package, you are under no obligation to continue. Some clients, after they have had a few sessions, tend to 'check-in' monthly or on an ad hoc basis. The rare exceptions to open-ended therapy are if the client is becoming dependent on the therapy or therapist, please see Matt's Ts and Cs for details.

Feel free to enquire further, book an initial no-fee chat, or your first therapy appointment. Matt very much looks forward to connecting with you!
